The swimming ponds came due to damming off of clay pits. These are managed by the City of London Corporation that protects against flooding. The pools come in three varieties, one for men, and another for women and the third for mixed groups. The ponds for the different genders are open throughout the year but the mixed pond has some restriction during winter. At this time, you will use the pond only if you are a member of the Hampstead Heath Winter Swimming Club. This water maintains a cool temperature even during summer
